Today around noon they canceled school for tomorrow, county wide. Quite a few businesses will be closed tomorrow, and apparently, earlier today Governor Haley Barbour issued a state of emergency for the entire state of Mississippi. (Opens a PDF)We have a Winter Weather Advisory and a Hard Freeze Watch.
As a northerner, it is funny to me that this is the reaction to temperatures in the 20s and 1/10" of ice. Honestly though, it probably is bad enough that these precautions need to be taken. Weather like this is so rare that they are not equipped in the slightest to deal with it. Apparently there is not a snow plow within a 100 mile radius and the only thing they can do is put sand on the roads to help with traction. On the news today they had the highway patrol giving safe driving tips but I don't think it will help. You just don't know what driving in ice and snow is like until you have done it.
Luckily I got most of the birthday shopping done today and Marty is off work tomorrow. We will stay in tomorrow, cooking and getting ready for the party. Of course I will drink my weight in sugar free, gluten free hot cocoa.

Meanwhile here in the frozen North I'm expected to send my 5 year old to the bus stop even though it's 20degrees below zero. :) Homeschooling is sounding better and better. put
Poor Cheyenne! I'll tell you... there were many winter days that I was glad to not have to get the boys pout the door and was able to just let them sleep in and drink hot cocoa all day. lol
I remember many a day taking my behind to school in weather that would make people down here break in to hives!
